Booking vs store: choosing the right platform

If you sell time instead of things, start here before anything else.

Stores sell items; booking sites sell time

If customers choose a product, quantity and delivery method, you need an online store. If they choose a service, staff member, date and time, you need a booking flow.

Many businesses need both eventually, but the first version should match the main customer action.

Hybrid businesses need clear navigation

A salon might sell appointments and products. A workshop might sell tickets and physical kits. In these cases, keep “Book” and “Shop” separate in navigation so customers do not get lost.

Choose by operational risk

The more time-sensitive the business, the more important availability and reminders become. The more inventory-sensitive the business, the more important stock and checkout become.
